Single Certificate Authority
In Article 21 of Decree 123/2015/ND-CP, the authority to issue single certificates is regulated as follows:
- Citizens go to the People’s Committee of the commune/ward where the permanent address is registered to apply for a certificate of singleness.
- Vietnamese citizens who do not have a permanent place of residence but have registered for temporary residence can go to the People’s. Committee of the commune/ward where he or she registers his temporary residence to apply for a certificate.
- Vietnamese citizens living abroad who want to request a certificate of singleness while returning to Vietnam, can go to the People’s Committee of the commune/ward where they reside before leaving the country to get it.
- Vietnamese citizens who are living abroad can go to the Vietnamese diplomatic missions and consulates in the host country to apply for a certificate of singleness.
Procedures for issuing a single certificate
To get a single certificate, please follow these steps:
- As the first step, you submit the declaration at the authority that issues the single certificate.
In case the applicant for a a single certificate is married but currently has a dead or divorced spouse, he/she needs to:
– Present a copy of the spouse’s death certificate
– Or the judgment/decision of the Court about the divorce
- After 3 working days from the date of receipt of complete and valid documents, the People’s Committee or Consulate will sign and issue a certificate of marital status to the customer if eligible.
- The validity period of the single certificate is 6 months.
